You don’t have to pay to merge bracketed real-estate photos. The free tools below are all real options. They differ in how much hand work each room needs, and whether they deal with what makes listing photos hard: blown-out windows, mixed lighting and leaning walls.
| Tool | Cost | Runs on | Real-estate fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Luminance HDR | Free, open source | Windows, macOS, Linux | Many tone-mapping operators; natural interiors take tuning |
| Enfuse (+ align_image_stack) | Free, open source | Command line; GUIs and plugins exist | Natural-looking fusion; windows and colour left to you |
| darktable | Free, open source | Windows, macOS, Linux | Full RAW editor with an HDR merge to DNG, lensfun lens correction and perspective tools; all manual |
| CasaVivid | Free during open beta | Web browser | Built for listings: batch merge, window pull, colour cleanup, interior perspective correction |
Luminance HDR
Builds a true HDR image from your brackets and tone-maps it with your choice of operator. It is great for learning and for creative looks. For listing photos, expect to tune the settings on each room. See the full comparison: CasaVivid vs Luminance HDR.
Enfuse
Exposure fusion with no tone mapping, so results look natural. It is script-friendly and works well for batches. You will still need another editor for window views, colour casts and perspective. See CasaVivid vs Enfuse.
darktable
A full open-source RAW editor. It can merge a bracket to an HDR DNG, correct lens distortion through the lensfun database, and fix perspective with its rotate-and-perspective module. Everything is manual, so it suits photographers who want a free alternative to Lightroom and are willing to edit each room by hand.
CasaVivid (free while in beta)
A web app built for real-estate brackets. Upload a shoot, and it groups the brackets, merges them, pulls window views, cleans up colour casts and returns finished photos. Staging and AI edits are in the same place. It is free during the open beta; founding users get early-access pricing when paid plans start.
Perspective correction (straightening leaning walls and converging verticals) runs automatically on interior photos and can be switched off. It is not applied to exteriors or to drone shots, where it was more likely to tilt a good frame than fix it.
What about paid tools?
Photomatix Pro (one-time licence) and Lightroom’s HDR merge (subscription) are the usual paid choices. Both offer free trials.
FAQ
